2025 SLN TC Analysis
2025 SLN TC Analysis
It’s the start of the 2025 season and there were some big TCs across the league. Taking a deeper look to see who saw gains and who saw losses, as well as how those changes stacked up across player positions, ages, etc.
First a note on the data: when I refer to “TCΔ”, I count a letter grade move as 1, so Bazley going from A to A+ Reb = +1. I do not include changes in Potential in these calcs.
Separately, when I show “Stat Totals” for players, I calculate those as a sum of all letter grades, excluding potential, based on the following scale.

So for example, Cade is B+ A A- C+ C = 56.
Here’s a first cut of data, looking at TC impacts by player position, age, etc:

In aggregate, across 360 total players that participated in TC, 208 gained for +208 TCΔ, 118 declined for -163 TCΔ, and the remaining 112 held flat. So in total, the league saw +45 TCΔ.
Unsurprisingly, younger players fared best, with +110 net for players 24 and younger. Other than ages 27 and 28, all other ages declined or held flat.
By position group, PGs and Cs saw net declines, with all other players making up the net gains.
And on a post-TC basis, you can see how rare certain stats are. There is now 1 A+ Inside player (Zion), 1 A+ Defense Player (Mobley) and 1 A+ Rebound Player (Bazley). Also shouts out to the absolute dogs with the worst stats in the set: Inside (Tacko with a D), Outside (Tacko with an F+), Handles (Drummond and Gobert with F), Defense (Hardaway Jr with an F+), and Rebounding (Conley and Powell with D-).
And then looking across positions groups, unsurprisingly, PGs and SFs are the most well-rounded, with 50.5 and 50.1 average total stats, respectively. Luka is the new GOAT on this basis with 67 total stats, +4 vs #2 Joel Embiid with 63. Tacko is also bringing up the rear here at 33, vs next worst Vladislav Goldin at 36.
Now looking across teams, divisions, conferences:

The Central had a massive +25 total gains, led by Toronto with +19. Of course a big piece of this is driven by total players per roster, so looking on a per player basis, things look much more even. This data is also skewed by mix of player positions by roster, as total player stats is influenced heavily by mix, as demonstrated above. So ultimately the stats by team, division, conference probably don’t tell us a whole lot, other than that some teams clearly had great TCs like Toronto, Phoenix, Vancouver, San Antonio, and New Jersey. Tougher looks for the Celtics and Warriors.
Let me know of any thoughts or questions!
