Power Ranking the 2023 Retiring Class
In desperate need of RP and thought to put some historian powers to good use by finally writing this type of article after teasing it a few times seasons ago. I am going to go thru the stacked 2023 retiring class and rank and tier all 22 retirees from worst to best. Let’s get this ride started.
The Low Minute Role Players
22. Javale McGee – Lakers - He never really panned out in the sim league and only averaged 15 minutes a game in games he found the floor. Could block some shots but that’s it.
21. Anthony Randolph – Kings - Averaged less minutes than Javale (14) but had a better stock to turnover ratio. Did not do much else, but was on those Knicks teams in 18-21 that won a lot of games
Role Players
20. Jeff Green – Nets – What a controversial career this guy had! He was bad to ok to maybe good to not great to good. I still don’t really know if he was good or not. But he played a role for many different teams and sported some minutes
19. Leon Powe – Mavericks – Once traded for a pick, he could board but dang did he like to turn the ball over. Long career, retired at 39 vs IRL in 2012
18. Jason Thompson – Lakers – Long career, was pretty good with the Jazz and Kings early on, rebounded and defended.
17. Hasheem Thabeet – Bullets – A blocky boy that got blocks . A classic MLE candidate year over year
16. Joakim Noah – Cavaliers – He could never rebound the ball at a high level, but could get a bunch of blocks and wouldn’t turn the ball over much. I thought he was going to be much better when he got drafted tbh.
15. Joe Ingles – Raptors – I know Jwoo was happy to have his home grown NDL guy retire in Toronto. He was a prototypical 3-D guy for a few years, + rebounder at the position.
14. Festus Ezeli – Jazz – He got to be pretty good even without getting that NDL delegation. Lots of MLE offers in his later seasons.
13. Andrew Bynum – Mavericks- The binomial himself, if he was supercamped appropriately, he would’ve been an absolute force as your classic big butt. Even without it, he was a stocky dude who wouldn’t turn it over too much. Many MLEs
Valued Starters
12. Julian Wright – Supersonics – Gets a lot of bonus points for his Suns championship here. Huge defender and stock to To positive guy.
11. Andrew Bogut – Magic – A former All defensive candidate, this guy was great in his peak. He then got paid too much and fell off hard.
10. Luol Deng – Jazz – One of the weirder careers here, he came in pretty good, didn’t get better for a while and was considered mid, then magically become offensively competent and become a two way force.
9. Kendrick Perkins – 3 time champ and very good center for most of his career. Kendrick was an absolute dog.
8. Rudy Gay – I was going to put him in the next category, but it turns out he never made an all star game. That being said, there were points in his career where he was considered a bust, then magically became a star late in the career. Fun note, because of his retirement and unretirement due to the sorry kid, the history page for him only shows the 2022 season stats and accolades for him and Greg Oden. Don’t believe me? Look for yourself!

Former All Stars
7. CJ Miles – Lakers – He has more credentials (3all star games and an all nba first team) than Derrick Rose, but derrick rose was an absolute flame thrower til the day he died, so he gets the nod over CJ.
HOF Nominees
This is where it gets very very difficult.
6. Derrick Rose – Bulls – He technically didn’t make an all-star game but that’s a load of crap. One of the best scorers our game has seen, this man might make the HOF even without the credentials due to his bucket getting ability.
5. LaMarcus Aldridge – Clippers – Many time all leaguer and all star with the Bucks, very very good career.
4. Monta Ellis – Clippers – one time champ, and many time all star and all nba-er. Extremely consistent til his final days. Efficient, low TOs, high steals.
3. DeAndre Jordan – Hawks - Defensive player of the year and three time champ. Nuff said!
2. Marvin Williams – Jazz – One of best SFs this league has seen. Part of the fun Pokemon stip crew. One time champ with the Jazz.
1. Greg Oden – Pacers – Marvin’s former running mate and one of the best bigs this league has seen. Dominant everywhere he went. Though folks feared he may shot too much, winning followed him around too much for me to question if he was a winning player.
I wanted to incorporate more stats to back up my positioning but 22 players is a lot lol.
Argue with me below if you disagree with anything here
