Re-Signings Preview
Happy Thursday gents. We are coming up on the final sim of the season which means that re-signings are just around the corner. I’ll analyze this year’s potential crop of FA’s in numerous different ways.
The Tag Candidates
JT Toppin - Mavs
A key part of the return for Aaron Gordon, because there’s no way MPJ at 25M AAV is a value add. He’s showing B+/B+ big man ratings and had an encouraging 100-110 sim showing more block potential than I thought he had.
Tag Decision: NO TAG, Tyran Stokes is next offseason
Market Value: $5-7M; Sought after MLE
Yanic Konan Niederhauser - Bucks
The best of the Bucks expiring rookies, sorry Koa Peat. YKN has shown himself to have a nice sized rump. 12 Reb/36 and 3.2 Blk/36 are a really nice start for a guy who doesn’t seem to shoot very often. The rebounding generally needs to improve as he shows just B boards but definitely an intriguing player. Will he be one of these re-sign real cheap no inside bigs?

Market Value: $5-7M; Sought after MLE
Hansen Yang – Pacers
Near and dear to Tonger’s heart, one of his first NDL children. Hansen sports B inside and B+/B+ big man grades. He got NDL boosts and is averaging 11/10 with 2.7 stocks to 1.2 tov at 45% FG%. Hansen is pretty damn interesting and would probably be pretty sought after by cap space teams.
Tag Decision: MAYBE, if Labaron doesn’t resign then no, if he does…perhaps?
Market Value: $7-9M
Malachi Moreno – Celtics
Solid back up big for this squad. He boasts A- rebounding which is getting harder and harder to find. If he hits the market, he’ll definitely pick up some interest. Kind of like a less blocky YKN with more boards.

Market Value: $5-7M; Sought after MLE
Cam Boozer – Hawks
He real good, kind of Rui-esque. Nothing to say, he nice
Tag Decision: DUH
Market Value: MAX
Tounde Yessoufu – Suns
Sports more volume than I expected for this mold of prospect, averaging 20 per game at a 45% clip with a revolting 2.4 turnovers. For the positives? B+ boards at SF doing 10 per game with probably a good amount of pot left. One of those players that has value but at what number is hard to decide. Barring a friendly re-sign, Tounde will likely get overpaid to his current production but should continue to grow into a great player.

Market Value: Max, not worth it now, but if you want him, that’s what it’ll cost
Nate Ament – Bulls
Matt hates this guy but I love his ratings. Not stocky and more jump shot than 3-point. Ament hasn’t had the TC everyone expected yet but has consistently improved. Similar to Tounde, he’s going to get overpaid relative to current production if he hits the market, but that’ll probably be a good bet. Think the vintage Rudy Gay FA.

Cedric Coward – Kings
Worth a Brinks truck worth of stuff. Sources tell me even Zach Edey who is one of the best bigs in SLN in his prime isn’t enough to acquire this expiring man who is only 1 year younger than Zach. He’s looked a lot less electric in SAC than MSG but still has all the makings of a very good scoring wing.
Tag Decision: NO TAG, feel like Jesse hates RFA
Market Value: Max, if you want him, that’s what it’ll cost
AJ Dybantsa – Cavs
IDK what this dude is. He’s pretty meh. Crazy how different this team is if Manty took Boozer 2.

Market Value: $6M and a prayer? idk
Darius Adams – Hawks
What Trae Young should’ve been. An absolute bucket with mediocre defense and negative rebounding. He’s been a huge breakout player for the Hawks and will be a priority to retain.
Tag Decision: NO TAG, unless Cam re-signs
Market Value: Max, I mean even Jean Montero got one
Mikel Brown Jr. – Timberwolves
Diet Tyus Jones. He’s a very low turnover solid PG. He’ll never be one of the best PG’s in the league and his rebounding really hurts. I feel like Mikel will offer Jason Hart type of re-signs at 7-8M which would be perfect for him.

Market Value: Max, if you want him, that’s what it’ll cost, but not what I’d want to do
Darryn Peterson – Clippers
2nd best player in the league.
Tag Decision: DUH

Labaron Philon – Pacers
Great ratings. Lots of NDL boosts. Not as efficient as you’d like from a PG to be a true offensive difference maker but Labaron gonna be real good, especially if you just look at Scoot as the preceding example.

Rui Hachimura - Magic
Spoiler alert, Orlando will give him the entire GDP of Japan to come back plus 3 no-show marketing deals with Disney.
Zaccharie Risacher – Nuggets
No re-signing advantage if he hits FA. Just 24 with very pretty ratings, Zach has never totally looked the max part, but he’s a very tantalizing addition. If you pay him the 15M max, the backend could get pretty rough.
Jonathan Kuminga – Hawks
He boards and guards but is a bit turnover prone. At 27, he’s probably still got some TC juice left. I really like the concept of Kuminga but paying him would be a bit worrisome. Kind of guy you’d love around 10M but will need to pay 15+. Huge re-signings ahead in Atlanta especially when they’re likely entering the offseason in HC Hell.
Jalen Suggs – 76ers
Re-signed below market once already. Jalen kind of slides under the radar because DMo isn’t a propaganda machine. I think he’s maybe the best defensive PG in SLN, feel like my guys always suck against Philly. Turnovers can be a bit high but a really good player.
Anthony Edwards – Bullets
SLN’s most improved player. Leading the league in scoring and carrying Wes’ rich corpse to the playoffs. He’s worth all the pennies if he can do this.
LaMelo Ball – Spurs
Multi-MVP, SLN Champ. He’s pretty amazing and will garner a max.
Intriguing Older Role Players to Monitor
Nikola Jokic – Jazz
Not sure what he gets on the open market, but can you imagine him on an MLE
Joel Embiid – Rockets
Wonder what he looks like in a non-featured role these days
Matisse Thybulle – Pacers
Recently re-signed cheap, will he do it again? The Stock Monster
Jabari Parker – Grizzlies
Still scores and boards. Would be a nice 1 year expiring type
Ben Simmons – Sonics
Starting to decline but a unique defensive swiss army knife whose value skyrockets on the right deal
Otto Porter Jr. – Suns
Still scores and boards. Would be a nice 1 year expiring type
Derrick Jones Jr. – Suns
Morphed into a solid offensive player who is a defensive lord.
Tyler Herro – Bucks
Always overpaid but these scorers can have real value, see: Miller, Brandon
Jaylen Brown – Lakers
Not what he used to be but solid depth.
Keldon Johnson – Timberwolves
Shoutout Lakeland Magic [Legend, oops]. Can’t play back up PG with turnovers like that but the microwave bench scorer most teams need
Ja Morant – Sonics
Seems okay?
Lonzo Ball – Kings
Definition of solid. Guards and is now efficient.
Bigs with Interesting Decisions
To me, FA is usually about where do the bigs go and what are they paid. A lot of guys are up this year, some often re-sign cheap and others are TBD
