Extend or Not to Extend: An MLE Story(Day 20 Check-In)
I did this maybe 5 seasons ago and decided why not start scrounging for that Damp SC. Here i will go a little in depth on the MLE(s) used across the league and give MY PERSONAL OPINION on if said player should be extended or not.
There arent any Lauri’s in this years class but there are a few solid role players in the same vein as Josh Hart that could be re-upped. I am always surprised, going by team-by-team, and realizing that not whole lot of us are using the MLE for any number of reasons. Currently i only spot 11/29 MLE(s) being used by the league this year. If i do this annually then ill start tracking it but for now, regardless of my previous statement, that is probably on par with the average usage? Guess ill go dig and find my other article to compare.

Boston Celtics — Jakob Poeltl — C — Age:34
Ratings: C+/D+/C/B+/B+/D

Analysis: Poeltl has had a consistent, yet unspectacularly long career as a big butt. Do you want him as your 3rd big? Perhaps. But do you want him as your 4th big? Most definitely. He isn’t efficient, he gets boards, and he has always been stock/to positive. If Pottel was maybe three or four years younger then i could see this MLE being extended. Alas, Nowitzki. At this point, he is going to be scooped on MLEs per year until his ratings fully dip. He is the type of big though that could last until 37 and be fine as your 4th big, but i dont believe any of us want to pay over 5m for that. You know what you get with Poeltl and thats a plus. Just too old to extend imo.

Washington Bullets — Devin Carter — PG — Age:27
Ratings: C+/B/C/B+/C/C

Analysis: Nothing like forgetting i had bird rights on this guy, am i right? Wes may despise what im about to write, so apologies my friend. Carter doesnt pop when it comes to being looked at by ratings whores but he is prettay good? Im squinting, gimme a second. Yeah, i dont hate him. Shooting 46/81/41 isnt spectacular, but for a backup, its not the worst. The biggest question is, are you fine if you need him to start in spot duty? Based on his stats, i would have to say yes. I am not convinced though that it is worth the money UNLESS you can afford it. He offered to resign for 2yrs at like 2.3m w/ a smoll increase and i think thats what he is worth. With the PG market the way it is right now though, he isnt a bad band aid if an injury arises. He somewhat annoys me IRL, dont know why, but he does.
Extend or Not Extend: NO EXTEND…upon further thought, maybe extend and wait for some value to come in? Idk the point guard market is truly different atm.

Central Division:
Cleveland Cavaliers — Tre Johnson — SG — Age:24
Ratings: B/A-/C-/B-/D+/C
Day 20 Stats: N/A
Analysis: Pasdasauce’s affinity for real life Wizards knows no bounds. In FA, i somewhat saw Johnson as a another Brandon Miller case. Didnt pop enough with their previous team but had the lottery prowess mixed w good ratings, young, and B pot. Michael was definitely looking for a better TC than what Tre got but it still might be possible to salvage this career. The D+ rebounding is really bad but nothing else(except his 3P%) about his game really says he cant be serviceable soon. The pot moved to a C, i get it, but some of these guys just need a new venue to shine. I think im using the idea of Miller in my head too much with this one but if Johnson can be traded to a rebuilding team who can give him the burn, i think they could be rewarded. Miller just went for 1000RP and a FRP fwiw tankers.
Extend or No Extend: Cavs — NO EXTEND, Tanker with money and minutes — EXTEND
Detroit Pistons — Troy Brown Jr. — SF — Age:30
Ratings: B/A-/C/B-/C+/C

Analysis: I truly went to bat for this guy, way past whether he was good or not when he was a Wizard IRL. Phucka you Troy Brown. This one is a tough call for me. Is it RB giving the job to Cade and giving Tyrese garbage time minutes? Fuck if i know. Troy isnt playing spectacularly, so maybe id try Baldwin and compare the output if RB is truly contemplating this. The books in Detroit arent terrible, making Troy a possible future backup at that price point easier to swallow. I would not pick up this extension though. Just think you could trade for a guy on a rookie contract or package some guys and a FRP for a slight upgrade. Troy is a calming presence in Detroits lineup and a fan favorite, lets see if that works in his favor.

Analysis: Kind of sucks Marky Mark never came around in SLN. Its like if last season IRL never occured for him. To be fair, he hasnt gotten burn since his rookie contract to find out if he is any good. I already know he wont be extended and needs a couple random injuries to bigs infront of him to show anything. Wonder if a late career surge on min deals is in the cards for him. Do people just wanna see that defense get to B- with A- reb for him to be trusted? Damn do i wanna flip Poeltl for him and find out? Perhaps but Quinten Post and Dampier are what the fans come to watch. Cant forget about Cofie’s Coffee Corner, opened daily outside of Oracle Arena and locations across the Bay Area. Sorry. Nope, Mark Williams, you gotta show some juice for the burn rn young fella.

Analysis:Oh sweet balding baby Trae. Times were good seven seasons ago in Milwaukee. Now we must watch you play backup for a new team yearly. Major what if Derek. Is Trae causing problems in the San Antonio locker room? Reports are stating that he is dusting LaMelo in practice and eatting into everyones instahoes reservoir like a starving zombie. Life of an MLE journeyman i suppose. When your loyalty rating is so high and no team is loyal to you, might as well stay loyal to yourself. Wow uhm, MLE extensions, right, uhm ha ha ha. Yeah he is shooting lights out but doesnt warrant an extension based on age and defense. Premium backup for sure, but will most likely have a new home next yr imo.

Analysis: Haters are gonna hate, and playas are gonna PLAY! Oh but Clint his stats are a tick away from Troy Browns. Clint, he has never been good. HERDY HER HERRRRR. I wrote a lot in a dm to Ashes on the validity of why i am starting Holland over Taintyum and my lord, Holland is playing well? Could he regress? Totes. Will he though? UNFUCKINLIKELY…well maybe, not trying to bring the ire of SLN. You see he has yet to be on a team (no offense to Joe, Kipke, Derek), where he has gotten burn with a good enough offensive core around him. Yeah sure i could be hyping my team but objectively speaking Boogie, Okoro, and Lonzo are around him and all three of them have been or currently are A outside shooters. Oh but Clint, what about RJ Barrett and D-Lo? Honestly no clue other than Deck the Holls looked more like a PF based on his ratings back then(A-/C+/C/A-/B-/B). I.e. no one is focusing on Ron Holland, he can just do his thing, hit open shots, rebound, and play defense. But yeah, when my team starts losing i will start Tatum and his one trick pony game.

Los Angeles Lakers — Jeremy Sochan — SF — Age:26
Ratings: B-/B/C/A-/B/C

Analysis:Maybe we would care more about Sochan if Jesse were singing his praises on the boards every sim. I tried to snag him as an MLE, and just never thought he in turn would sign an MLE for another club. Another pacific team at that…is it me Jeremy? Do you hate the Bay? Did the Kings program you to believe Golden State sucks? I mean we do, but we try. GX has loaded up on wings for this season but i would entirely hit extend on Jeremy if the money works. Things are clearly working out in LA so far but w the emergence of Godson and the return of MPJ, this could be an uber valuable trade piece. Stay tuned on this one but id say fuck it and extend and worry about moneys later.

Analysis:The long game was Tylers plan all along. Trade one of his favorite players, all the while both him and

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say regardless of the wonky stats, he could get the reup. I get wanting to have as much cap as possible though with some very very important pieces needing to be resigned. 4 players are under contract for next season as it stands. — I just had to go back and delete a lot because i name dropped way too many players, ur welcome Tyler —. Yeah i think extending him is entirely understandable and inversely waiting to see what this team looks like in the off-season makes sense as well. Id do it though if ur on the fence Tyler.

Analysis:How in the absolute fuck is Sully still kickin? I havnt looked at him in three or four months and his rebounding is still an A-. Understandable that his defense has gone from an A- to a B. He shouldnt and wont be extended but cheers to SLN Jared Sullinger. You never were able to find ur wave IRL but even at 37 in SLN, you are pulling 9 rebounds a game and stock/to positive. There has gotta be some trade value for this guy out there. Poeltl could never.

Analysis: Okay so i wasnt sure based on the extension page if Jesse had reupped Kornet or not. I dont believe he did but who knows. Kings are sluts for Mike Muscalas i stg. Yeah i mean he has gotten ZERO burn as of yet and this signing was either a meme deal, a failed trade filler, or future trade filler? Idk its not like Kornet is bad. Its just that Shalen Sheppard is legit and SWA is a lord. Also i mean how are you not gonna be playing PondeReplay. Damn i love Marcis Ponder. Kings have a lot of rookies so if they wanna keep Kornet its not fucking with anything. You think Kornet has a corn company? Maybe a Korn field every October where the corn field is entirely Korn themed?
