Bored on a Train - part 2 - resigning recap - west coast edish
We are back for everyone’s not super popular, or even popular at all, resignings recap. West coast edition (definitively the worse conference, check out those finals results).
Same format as the other article. We go thru the resigning and I say who is team friendly, who is greedy, and who is crucial to their teams success. Vamos!
Dallas Mavericks
Only two resigning offers for the Hoffmeister. Lamelo ball on the rookie max (crucial!) and former Cleveland Charge great Jeremiah Robinson Earl on a weird 3.1 mil 3 year deal that escalates (greedy for a guy that got no playing time). Major priority for the mavs will be retaining JoJo Embiid.
Denver Nuggets
Only one resigning offers for the Nugs. The UniKornet on 4.95 mil deal escalating for three years. I’d call that team friendly for the stocky efficient lad.
Houston Rockets
Team friendly - a few folks offered for a vet mins including Trent Forrest (who?) , demar derozan (tank god) , and Omer Yurtseven (solid NDL guy). Nolan said no thanks, gimme that sweet sweet cap space (no
)
Greediest - Obi Toppin , 10.176 mil escalating for 6 years. He had a pretty solid season last year averaging 20 and 7 with a positive stock to TO ratio and good shooting efficiency (47.5 from the field and 46.7 from 3), but this seems like a huge and long contract for a PF that hasn’t learned to rebound yet. Don’t let Tyler get this man in his inside offense!
Crucial - that sweet cap space. Nolan will go after your men (pause?)
Minnesota Timberwolves
Only one resigning offer for Pankin. Brook Lopez offered to resign for a team friendly 3.5 mil, paying Pankin back for the loyalty and money Brook has received over the years. Sadly, we just learned Brook retired , so Pankin will have to find a new third big to replace him. Throw an MLE at someone big dog! He will also want to retain Immanuel Quickley
San Antonio Spurs
Team friendly - Mitchell Robinson , 2.957 mil two year deal escalating. What a classic Diop style resigning for Jordo. Remember when I said he was the worst person getting minutes on this team a few season back? Well Mitch heard it and become a stocky, turnover allergic fiend for this team.
Greediest - Tobias Harris - one year 6.58 mil. This guy has gotten paid so much in SLN and IRL, he thought it was just going to continue. Dude played 8 minutes a game last season, though he was super efficient. Jordo accepted him though.
Crucial - Mitch Robinson see the above
Utah Jazz
Ralph only had one resigning offer and it was a team friendly vet min from one of his long time guys, Dakari Johnson. That being said, looks like he missed the resigning period and didn’t accept it. Will likely just resign him to a min deal at some point during FA
Vancouver Grizzlies
Josh had some ok resigning offers like Muscala for 2.1 mil and Cole Anthony on a team friendly 2.49 mil, but Josh declined all to retain some space (likely to be taken up by his draft picks). He will want to retain Desmond Bane , one of the key pieces in the KP deal.
Golden State Warriors
Team friendly - toss up between Precious Achuiwa (2.71 mil 2 years escalating) and Mo Bamba (1 year vet min???), two crucial front court pieces for Clint retained very cheaply. Will give precious the most crucial for the two year nature of the deal, and also the greediest becuase that is Clint’s most expensive resigning somehow. He will want to retain Oladipo in the offseason.
Los Angeles Clippers
I guess the brights were a little too bright in LA. What shitty luck for Bobby who literally didn’t have a single resigning offer. His big FA to retain is the former MVP, Markelle Fultz. For Bobby’s sake, let’s hope he gets the luck in FA and Nolan doesn’t steal him.
Los Angeles Lakers
Team friendly - Onyeka Okungwu - 2 years 2.6 mil. Former first round big signing for this amount sounds about right. He was declined. I woulda signed him , he’s young and showing B B.
Greediest - Onyeka - sign for cheaper and maybe you’ll get that dinero!
Crucial - Jacob Poeltl - 3 years 7.62 mil, escalating. Jacob stays put to continue to play with Bam Adebayo and stifle opponents at the rim. I feel like this team is a good TC from MPJ and some good bench signings from being able to fight for a playoff spot
Phoenix Suns
Team friendly - Thad Young - 1 year vet min. A crucial part of the suns inside squad, this would’ve been a nice cheap resign if Thad weren’t to retire.
Greediest - Alex Caruso - 5.978 mil for 4 years escalating. Once a highly touted prospect, Caruso is a solid role player, but no one would lock him up for that much for that long.
Crucial - Nikola Jokic max resigning. Could you imagine this FA class with Jokic in it? Massive resigning for Tyler, who hopes Aaron Gordon does the same thing next season
Portland Trailblazers
Only two resignings for this squad, Rudy Gobert for a two year 7.68 escalating for 4 years (i wouldn’t call it greedy or team friendly, seems generally fair) and Dwight Powell on a 1 year 2.98 mil deal (both fair and team friendly). Only rotation players to be resigned are Henry Ellenson and John Wall, who was not that bad at all.
Sacramento Kings
Bad resigning luck for Jesse as neither Paul George or Issac Okoro offer to resign for this team. At least Oubre signed a super team friendly deal taking in a flat 8 mil for 4 years escalating. Lucky for Jesse , this FA class is stacked, so for how good these guys are, guys like Embiid, Fultz, and Zach Lavine will command the day 1 hubbub.
Seattle SuperSonics
Bad luck for Sonick as he gets no resigning offers. I guess Zach Lavine prefers Cleveland and losing, what a weirdo.
