Proposal: Prevent "future" RPs from being traded before the time horizon in which they are allowed to be moved.


Context: Right now, teams will try "post TC" trades, in which they are trading RPs that don't apply to their current trade cap for a current asset, pick or player. It's obvious circumvention.

Yeah i was going to just change this rule without any input a few seasons ago but now we live in a democracy. This can be known as the SUPERSUSPECT rule, b/c 75% of these BS trades are made by the Soniks.

Kinda wild we take issue with this. I can trade a 7 year out 2029 FRP Mid draft but not RP? They can’t use the RP during TC and comes out of the bucket post TC. All parties consent to the timing of the RP transfer.

Like this will just lead to the Sonicks and others just doing handshake deals and posting Post TC.

Seems this is a trying to fix what isn’t broke.

To that end (or analogy), and for consistency, I would also be in favor of the eligibility of (6-year in the future) draft picks to toll at the end of each draft.

And sure, shady fellas can all theoretically make handshake deals. That would be impossible to enforce. But this at least makes the league fairer and rules more explicit.

You effectively used 3,000 RPs in trades this season instead of 1500 and have almost every season. Trading future capital you technically don’t yet have access to for a current asset obviously is against the spirit of the rule so let’s change the rule so the enforcement mirrors the spirit
