Unproductive Action Tendency (2025-26 Season): How often do players do what we want on offense?

I think I’d argue assists don’t matter in real life either, and I’d guess more passing equals more turnovers in the NBA as well.

FBB is just binary where the passing rating means more passing as opposed to better passing.

I think there’s 2 types of passing that lead to assists in real life. Grenade passing where you’ve dribbled as much as you can and can’t score…Westbrook, Russell, and empowerment passing where you’re actively trying to get dudes shots and zipping the ball around with freedom knowing it’ll come back if needed…Haliburton, Tyrese.

One of these guys is fun to play with and helps the team come together to win. The other does not.

The real stat that isn’t tracked is what creates a scramble. Because that’s the true assist.

Yeah I should clarify that I mean the actual stat assist doesn’t matter, it’s also a subjective stat which is wild. What matters is the guys that are good passers are good playmakers and help the team win of course. I think I’ve seen arguments that the hockey assist is actually more valuable in the NBA.

Yea. It’s all about the guy who puts the defense in disadvantage. And with rotations today, the true playmaker is probably the hockey assist guy.

Think, PNR -> short roll -> swing corner 3
